The Philosophy of Ametsuchi
Ame is the Sky, Tsuchi is the Earth.
In ancient times, before the concept of the “Earth” as a planet existed,
ametsuchi referred to the sky stretching endlessly above and the land spreading out below—in other words, the world as people perceived it.
At the very beginning of the Kojiki, Japan’s oldest chronicle, the words appear: “ametsuchi hajimari no toki…”
In those days, people revered ametsuchi, did not fear it, and lived in harmony with it.
Over time, we have gradually grown distant from the Earth.
Amid the busyness of modern life, it is easy to lose touch with ourselves.
So that we may once again feel the ground beneath our feet and live with calm and balance, we at Ametsuchi create each piece with care and intention, delivering it to you.
There are important things that we, living in the present age, are beginning to forget.
We humans are also living beings born from the Earth, part of the blue and beautiful planet called “Earth,” floating in the vast universe scattered with countless stars.
If touching these fragments of the Earth can help remind you of this truth, we would be truly happy.

we personally travel throughout Japan, forming meaningful connections with the land and the materials we encounter.
